2009 - no race held

In 2009, California's dysfunctional government was unable to agree on a budget by the normal June deadline. So California didn't have a budget, going into the mid-late summer. One result of this nonsense was that special event permits were suspended in CA State Parks - there wasn't anyone there to process and issue them, and there weren't any rangers to staff the events. No budget, no payroll, no rangers. The Tam course runs through State Park jurisdiction along Ridgecrest and the finish line, so it was impossible to hold the event.

As an homage to 2009, we present this photograph of the Governor, allegedly taken during some of the budget negotiations in Sacramento.
